The All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA) is finding resources to support athletes under conditions of non-admission to international tournaments, the organisation’s first vice-president has told Irina Privalova .
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has recommended that sports federations prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations follow these recommendations. Since the beginning of 2023, three starts have taken place in Russia under the auspices of ARAF: the Christmas Cup in Moscow, the Yuri Lukashevich and Vyacheslav Seredkin Memorial in Chelyabinsk, and the Nikolai Ozolin and Vladimir Dyachkov Memorial in the capital.
– Does the VFLA in any way motivate experienced athletes to apply for tournaments and continue to compete?
– Yes, prizes are awarded, opportunities are found. In the conditions in which Russian sports find themselves, athletics finds the strength and resources to support its athletes, Privalova told .
In 2023, channels will broadcast competitions within the framework of the Russian Cup and the national athletics championship.
