The famous Ukrainian gymnast strongly criticized the initiative of the IOC.

Russian athletes should not participate in the Olympics, because almost all of them support the Kremlin regime’s war in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the famous Ukrainian gymnast Oleg Vernyaev.

The Olympic champion criticized the IOC’s initiative to return athletes from aggressor countries to international competitions.

“The IOC will consider the possibility of the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Olympic Games in Paris. The so-called possible “strict conditions” for them is to compete under a neutral flag. And that’s it .

What good is a neutral flag if everyone already knows where this medal will go, and which country’s athlete will get it?

Almost all Russian athletes support the war in Ukraine. And even if they don’t make high-profile public statements, they still go to parades, wear St. George ribbon, the Z patch, came to pro-Kremlin events and supported the dictatorial regime.

They are not eligible to participate in the 2024 Olympics. And this is the principled position of the Ukrainian sports community.

PS And instead of preparing for competitions, our athletes, who are currently training in Kyiv, sit in bomb shelters and wonder if a martyr or a rocket will come. And in what conditions do gymnasts train in Russia? Are they okay? No war?” Vernyaev wrote.

Recall that earlier the NOC reported that if the Russians were admitted, Ukraine could boycott the Olympics.
