Athletistic/Figure Skating. German journalist Hajo Seppelt, specializing in doping research, spoke about the acquittal of figure skater Kamila Valieva by the RUSADA Disciplinary Committee.

Valieva has made it clear that she will fight for Olympic gold again

Valieva was not disqualified, but only the gold medal of the Russian Championship – 2022 was withdrawn, during which a positive doping test was taken. However, the case is referred to the CAS, which will decide the fate of the Olympic team tournament medals.

“The Valieva case is proof that Russian sport continues to be controlled by the state. Valieva is a national hero in the Russian Federation, the Russians believe that she has become a victim of the West. All this is propaganda, of course. The fact is that the girl has a positive result and there is not even a transparent explanation for why this acquittal was pronounced.

Will the real perpetrators of the Valieva affair be found? They say there were reasons other than Valieva’s personal misconduct, and I even believe that. I can imagine that Valieva is more of a victim here than a criminal. We can already wonder if it is not doping among teenagers. You know what coach training is like, I’m talking about Valieva’s coach Eteri Tutberidze, look what other Russian skaters said about her after her career ended, when she no longer needed being scared. Putting it all together, it seems like a diet of terror that many young skaters suffer from.

Nevertheless, Valieva has a positive result, and she bears formal responsibility for it. I wonder if anyone else in Russia can be pulled out of the hat and brought to justice.

It’s all manipulation. They do not benefit the reputation of Russian sport in the world. Although I am also sure that officials in Russia do not care at all. Valieva is a puppet, completely different people pull the strings. Even far outside of Russia, the question arises as to what role young athletes play in the structure, often clashing with powerful third-party interests,” Sportchau said, citing Seppelt.

“I’m glad there is a medal, but it’s too early to talk about it.” Trusov on the redistribution of Russian Championship medals
