Zelensky: Any neutral flag of Russian athletes is stained with blood

The President of Ukraine invited the head of the IOC Thomas Bach to Bakhmut

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky criticized the decision International Olympic Committee (IOC) allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete in international sports competitions. The Head of State proposed to the President of the IOC Thomas Bach visit Bahmut.

“There is no neutrality when such a war is going on. And we know how often tyrannies try to use sport for their own ideological interests. It is obvious that any neutral flag of Russian athletes is stained with blood.”

“One cannot help but be disappointed by the statements of the current chairman of the International Olympic Committee. I spoke to him more than once and never heard how he is going to protect sports from war propaganda if he returns Russian athletes to international competitions.

“We will do everything for the world to protect sport from the political and any other influence of a terrorist state, which is simply inevitable if Russian athletes compete. And even more so – in the Paris Olympics.

“Ukrainian athletes are forced to defend the lives of their loved ones and the freedom of our people from Russian aggression. Russian strikes claimed the lives of hundreds and hundreds of Ukrainians and Ukrainian women who could enrich world sport with their talent.

“I invite Mr. Bach to Bakhmut so that he can see with his own eyes that neutrality does not exist.”

Recall that the IOC is ready to consider the possibility of admitting athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions. In this case, everyone who wishes will be required to act in a neutral status. Also, athletes should not support the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The Olympic Summit, chaired by IOC President Thomas Bach, unanimously agreed to accept the initiative proposed by the Olympic Council of Asia, allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in its competitions.
