Bach: Ukraine wants to isolate Russia as a state and all Russians

Most likely, athletes from the Russian Federation will be admitted to the Olympics-2024

The president IOC Thomas Bach said that the likelihood of performances by Russians and Belarusians at the 2024 Olympics in Paris exists. At the same time, the head of the International Olympic Committee declared the apolitical nature of the IOC in relation to sports competitions.

“Removing athletes just because of their passports is not in line with the values and mission of the Olympic Charter. It is quite possible that the Russians and Belarusians will march under a neutral flag.”

“To gather all athletes from all over the world is the task and symbol of the IOC. And Ukraine wants to isolate Russia as a state and all Russians. We stand in solidarity with Ukrainian athletes, but other athletes should not suffer if their countries are in conflict.”

The Olympic Summit, chaired by IOC President Thomas Bach, unanimously agreed to accept the initiative proposed by the Olympic Council of Asia, allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in its competitions.

Later, the Asian Olympic Committee (OCA) officially invited athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in competitions in Asia, including the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

The IOC is ready to consider the possibility of admitting athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions. In this case, everyone who wishes will be required to act in a neutral status. Also, athletes should not support the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky criticized the IOC for the possible admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympic Games-2024. The Head of State proposed to the President of the IOC Thomas Bach visit Bahmut.

In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba and the President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit do not rule out a boycott of the Games by Ukraine if a decision on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes is made.
