Russian figure skater Arthur Danielian said he intended to return to his best form and compete, above all, with compatriots, without changing his sporting citizenship.
Danielyan played out of competition at the St. Petersburg Championship and scored 74.46 points. The skater is still part of the Moscow national team and can only be transferred at the end of the season.
The first three after the short program are Makar Ignatov (105.08 points), Matvey Vetlugin (101.60) and Gleb Lutfulline (97.15).
– I don’t have a rental today – that’s obvious. Basically, there were no jump elements. From the rest of the elements: I felt like I had the best spin of the season. I don’t want to make excuses and look for reasons, I’ll just skate the free program tomorrow and show the work I’ve done.
– You are still considered a Muscovite. Are you going to ask for a transfer to the St. Petersburg team?
– Of course, but it can only be done at the end of the season. Such is the regulation. I will find out how and what documents should be drawn up, and I will do everything.
– Have you already settled in Saint-Petersburg during these months?
– In general, yes, but I do not distinguish some local dialects (for example, the front door of the entrance), I am not a fan of showrooms and shawarma. I travel by public transport, I cook at home.
– After one of your performances, you say that you are not considering the possibility of joining the national team of another country. Something changed?
– And what’s the point of changing teams? I am now trying with all my strength to come out of the bottom where I have been for the past few years. The reasons are different – injuries and so on. I want to get back to solid form and compete, above all, with our guys. They are the strongest and the level is higher than the international one.
The St. Petersburg Figure Skating Championship takes place on January 28-29.
