Zinchenko: My dream is to go to the World Cup and give emotions to Ukrainians, because they deserve it

Alexander gave a very emotional interview on the eve of the game with Scotland

Midfielder of the national team of Ukraine Alexander Zinchenko talked about preparing for the match with Scotland in the playoffs 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The leader of the national team gave a very emotional interview, in which he stated about the maximum mood and desire to give positive emotions to the people of Ukraine, who are opposing the full-scale Russian aggression for the 97th day.

“Firstly, I would like to thank the Scottish Football Federation, the entire Scottish team — the coaching staff along with the players — for all the support, for all the help they provided to the Ukrainian people, the Ukrainian people. I spoke with several players from the Scottish national team. so thank you very much for their support,” Zinchenko said at a press conference.

“Secondly, about the mood. Fighting mood. Each of the players understands the current situation that is happening in our country. Therefore, I want to assure you that tomorrow each player will give not 100 percent, but 200 percent.”

“What did you feel on February 24? I think you can ask every Ukrainian about this, and the answer will be the same. It is impossible to describe these emotions if you are not in this position. The things that are happening now in our country are unacceptable, I can’t even describe. Therefore, we all must stop this aggression. We need to win, because Ukraine is a country of freedom, it will never give up. But today, many countries do not understand that today it is Ukraine, and tomorrow it can be you. Therefore, we must be united and overcome Russian aggression together.”

“I have already said that several times I held a weapon in my hands. But I am 100 percent convinced that I will be more useful for Ukraine if I am in Manchester and help Ukraine and the Ukrainian people as much as I can by sending things, money, addressing the audience on Instagram and during interviews, showing the whole world what is happening now in Ukraine. And the whole world should know the truth. I agree 100 percent with Andriy Shevchenko, who said exactly the same thing.”

“Each of the Ukrainians has a main dream – to stop the war. I talked a lot with different people, from different countries. I talked with small Ukrainian children. They do not understand anything, but they say one thing: ‘I dream that the war will end’. But if we talk about football, we also have our own dream. The dream is to go to the World Cup and give these emotions to Ukrainians in this difficult time, because they deserve it.”

“Of course, we understand that many Ukrainians do not have the opportunity to attend tomorrow’s game. But I am sure that all of Ukraine will watch our match tomorrow. And we will feel it, 100 percent. We can talk a lot, but we have work to do on the football field.”

Ukraine and Scotland will play in the semi-finals of the playoffs for qualification to the World Cup tomorrow, June 1. The match will take place at the Hampden Park stadium in Glasgow, starting at 21:45 Kyiv time.

The winner of tomorrow’s match will advance to the play-off final, where they will play against Wales on 5 June.
