Ukraine continues to lose athletes as the IOC mulls over the admission of athletes from aggressor countries.
Another irreparable loss for Ukrainian sports. During the battles near Bakhmut, on January 25, the Champion of Ukraine U20 in the decathlon (2019) Volodymyr Androshchuk died.
Before the start of the whole invasion, the athlete regularly took part in athletics competitions in Ukraine and represented our country in the international arena. So the 22-year-old athlete previously participated in the U-20 European Championship, where he became sixth in the modern pentathlon. He is survived by his mother and sister. This was reported to the Athletics Federation of Ukraine.
“It is difficult to find words when, despite great victories, a terrible defeat has occurred. Thank you, hero, for your protection and devotion. Rest in peace. We will not forgive. We will take revenge,” the message on the page of Instagram said.

Note that Elina Svitolina also mentioned Androshchuk’s killing in her appeal to the IOC. The tennis player urged to abandon the idea of receiving athletes from Russia and Belarus at the 2024 Games.
“The Olympic Games is the biggest dream for athletes. It is the biggest platform to raise awareness in sport. With this in mind, we must follow the ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes. The odds- terrible actions of their governments have consequences Their lives cannot remain ordinary. The people of the Russian Federation and RB cannot be unaware of the atrocities they are committing in Ukraine. Vladimir Androshchuk, one of the famous track and field star of Ukraine, died in action. He never fulfilled his potential or dreams at the Games, so why should Russian and Belarusian athletes have a chance when their governments deprived innocent people and athletes of their turn?!” Elina wrote on Instagram.
