The National Olympic Committee made a preliminary decision on the scandalous initiative of the IOC.
If Russian and Belarusian athletes are admitted to the 2024 Olympic Games, Ukraine has the right to boycott the competition. This decision was made today during the extraordinary General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
The possibility of a boycott was supported by an absolute majority of participants – 109 out of 112 votes “for”, 3 – “abstained”.
The final decision will be made after consultation with all national sports federations.
In addition, according to Suspilne sport, the NOC has prepared a plan of measures to prevent the return of athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to international competitions:
1. The NOC of Ukraine prepares and sends written appeals to the subjects of the Olympic Movement: National Olympic Committees of the countries of the world, international sports federations for Olympic sports and other subjects of the Olympic movement – until February 10.
2. Get feedback from the subjects of the Olympic movement – within 1 month from the date of application.
3. The NOC of Ukraine will review the information received based on the results of the consultation – within 1 month from receiving the information.
4. Based on the results of the work done, summarize and formulate a common position and submit it for discussion by the Extraordinary General Assembly – based on the results of the results within 2 months.
It will be remembered that earlier the President of the NOC, Vadim Gutzeit, said that if the Russians were admitted, Ukraine could boycott the Olympics.
