The Mexican was knocked down for the first time in his career
Mexican Emanuel Navarrete (37-1, 31 KOs) defeated Australian Liam Wilson (11-2, 7 KOs) in the battle for the vacant WBO title in the second featherweight division.
In the fourth round, Wilson sent Navarrete to the canvas of the ring. Note that the Mexican was knocked down for the first time in his career.
Navarrete was able to recover and after the sixth round took over the initiative. In the ninth round, Emanuel knocked down the opponent, and after another successful attack by the Mexican, the referee stopped the fight.
Emanuel also holds the WBO featherweight title. From 2018 to 2020, he was the WBO super bantamweight champion.
Recall that the WBO featherweight title became vacant in September 2022 after Shakur Stevenson failed to make weight before the fight against Robson Conceicao. The American also vacated the WBC belt.
