The Portuguese signed a contract until 2026
Portuguese specialist Carlos Queiroz appointed head coach Qatar. The coach signed a contract until 2026.
At the end of December, the Qatar Football Association terminated the contract with national team coach Felix Sanchez Bas. The Spaniard led the team to the 2019 Asian Cup title. However, at the home World Cup, the Qataris lost all three matches in the group.
Queiroz has previously coached the national teams of Portugal, UAE, South Africa, Iran, Colombia and Egypt. With the Iranians, the specialist played at three world championships (in 2014, 2018 and 2022).
At the last World Cup 2022 in Qatar, the Iranian team took third place in Group B. The Queiroz team lost the fights between England and the USA, but managed to beat the Wales team.
Qatar will take part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer. The tournament will be held in the USA from June 26 to July 16.
