Athletistic/ Figure Skating. In January, Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized with pneumonia. Recently, due to developing gangrene, his left foot was amputated. This was commented on by academician, full member of the International Academy of Natural Sciences (Hanover, Germany), Honorary Professor of State Medicine of China Alexander Mikhailovich Savelov-Deryabin. He admits that the foot amputation could have been avoided.
– I cannot issue a verdict from a distance without knowing the whole situation and its nuances, focusing on media information. I know one thing – in our time it is possible in some cases to do without amputation, if you competently and comprehensively examine the patient and try, if possible, to solve the problem therapeutically. We have achievements in this direction, and it is wrong not to take them into account, – explained the professor to SE.
