VFV spoke about the Spartakiad volleyball tournament format

Secretary General of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation Alexander Yaremenko spoke about the format and schedule of the Spartakiad volleyball tournament.

The Russian Sports Ministry plans to hold the Spartakiad in August 2022.

“The idea of holding the Spartakiad is a very important decision,” Yaremenko told reporters. I speak for our sport. Having banned international competitions, we have the opportunity to use all the best volleyball athletes in high-level competitions, to which the state gives political and economic weight. If the national teams played in the summer, there would only be around 20 volleyball players, and the rest are resting. And in the Spartakiad, 7 strongest clubs from the men’s and women’s super leagues, plus the youth team under 23, will play. In other words, over 100 of our best athletes will be playing. The teams will be selected according to the classification of the Russian Championship, the clubs will represent their regions.

The format is a preliminary stage, everyone will play with everyone else, that is, each team will play 7 games. And then the super final, in which the teams that took 1-2 places in the preliminary phase will play for gold, and the teams of 3-4 places will play for bronze. For men, part of the preliminary phase will take place in Kazan and Novosibirsk. For women – in Kaliningrad and Tula. The second part of the preliminary phase and the final will take place in Moscow. Dates – for men from August 10 to 21, for women from August 17 to 27.

Thank you to the Ministry of Sports and to those who imagined the Spartakiade! I hope it will become traditional.

“Legionnaires will be able to play?”

– Only Russian athletes assigned to specific regions will be allowed. Foreign teams won’t be allowed either, and I think that’s okay.
