Sergey sees the problem in the absence of the possibility of free viewing
Midfielder of Dynamo Kyiv Sergei Sidorchuk in an interview Sport Arena shared his opinion on the holding of the Ukrainian championship in the conditions of war and on the problem of Ukrainian football – the creation of a single TV pool.
“To be honest, it is the championship of Ukraine, it is the domestic competitions that only football players need. Indeed, now is not up to football at all. The second big minus is broadcasts. They are not serial. My friends tell me that the schedule says that there will be football, but it is coded or they simply cannot watch it. This is also a big problem.”
“You have to understand that Ukrainian football is not only about 40 clubs playing in the Premier League, the First and Second Leagues, but first of all the younger generation. It’s important to them too.”
The broadcaster of UPL matches in the new season is Setanta Sports. The majority of UPL participants voted for the creation of a single telepool. Dynamo, Dawn, Dnepr-1 and Rukh voted against.
The contract with Setanta Sports is for three years. The broadcaster will pay $16.2 million for the rights to UPL matches. For the boycott of the TV pool, UPL clubs can be punished with a fine of up to UAH 500,000 and deduction of points.
Mediagroup 1+1 media broadcasts matches of Dynamo, Dnipro-1, Zorya and Metalist in the Ukrainian championship. Rukh later joined these clubs. The fights are shown on 2+2 and UNIAN TV channels.
UPL Executive Director Yevhen Dykyy said that the League would act in accordance with legal documents if the conditions of a single TV pool were not met.
Dynamo President Igor Surkis, commenting on the situation with the TV pool, focused on the availability of matches for all segments of the population. In his opinion, the championship of Ukraine should be broadcast on one of the public TV channels.
The Setanta Sports TV channel and the MEGOGO media service took part in the tender for the full package of media rights for UPL 2022/23 matches. The Espreso TV channel has applied to broadcast individual matches and highlights of the new UPL season.
