The VFV said Voronkov could work as a coach, despite being suspended for 2 years for racism

General Secretary of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) Alexander Yaremenko said that the head coach of Lokomotiv Kaliningrad, disqualified for 2 years for racism, Andrei Voronkov there is no prohibition of the profession.

On Monday, the VFV executive committee approved a two-year disqualification of Voronkov for a racial slur against Cuban volleyball player Ailama Sese Montalvo.

– The violation lasts 2 calendar years. He assumes his non-participation in all events under the auspices of the WFV. Precisely the WFV competitions.

Why didn’t Voronkov apologize?

It is very difficult for me to make such comments. I cannot know why. And my personal remarks are inappropriate, because I am both on the disciplinary committee and on the executive committee. I can express a business decision, but a personal opinion is incorrect.

– Will Voronkov be able to take part in the process of forming Lokomotiv?

– In my words, everything is clearly said about the events under the auspices of the VFV. The VEF cannot prohibit a trainer holding a state diploma from training. He will not be able to bring a team of any level to the site in WVF competitions. That is, he can work in a foreign club, he can train in a children’s sports school. There is no prohibition of the profession as such.

As for the deadlines for filing an appeal with the arbitration of the VFV, he has 10 days to do so,” Yaremenko told reporters.

On May 12, Voronkov, during a timeout in the fifth game of the final series of the Russian championship with Uralochka-NTMK, giving instructions to his players, dismissed Valery Zaitseva and said: “Why are you still catching this monkey?” The phrase hit the tune “”. For the team from the Sverdlovsk region, the Cuban player Ailama Sese Montalvo played, who later left the club. Subsequently, the VFV disciplinary commission recommended to the executive committee of the organization to disqualify Voronkov for up to two years. It was noted that the specialist, “despite the obviousness of the situation, in principle refused to apologize to Uralochka-NTMK and personally to Montalvo.” Lokomotiv later apologised.
