The first award in this discipline for the Ukrainian team at this level
Ukrainian fencer Alina Polozyuk won a bronze medal at the FIE Trofeo Inalpi Grand Prix, which took place in Turin.
20-year-old Ukrainian became the third in foil fencing. Having successfully passed the preliminary round, Polozyuk defeated the Japanese Karin Miyawaki (15:13) in the first round of the main draw. Then Alina confidently passed German Anna Sauer (15:8) and Frenchwoman Pauline Ranvier (15:4).
In the quarterfinals, Polozyuk sensationally knocked out the Tokyo Olympic champion and world leader American Lee Kiefer (15:11). Only in the semi-finals did the Ukrainian lose to the reigning world champion Isaora Tibus from France (6:15).
“Bronze” of the Grand Prix in Turin has become historical for the Ukrainian team. Previously, Ukrainians have never managed to win medals in the individual foil championship at Grand Prix or World Cup competitions.
