The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has urged the coalition of countries opposed to Russia and Belarus’ participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France) not to sign a joint statement demanding that athletes not be allowed to compete, reports Dagbladet in reference to the German publication Spiegel.

According to Spiegel, on the eve of the IOC, special letters were sent to the National Olympic Committees of countries whose sports ministers attended the previous international summit.

“We strongly recommend that you contact your minister to ensure that the statement is not signed, or at least to ensure that the wording reflects the opinion of the Olympic movement as much as possible,” the letter read.
