Olympic ice dancing champion figure skater Roman Kostomarov has undergone another operation.
According to Komsomolskaya Pravda, citing a source in medical circles, the athlete continued to develop necrosis, which also spread to his hands. As a result, both of the skater’s hands were amputated.
Kostomarov is under medical supervision. His hospitalization became known in January. Earlier, it was reported that the 46-year-old figure skater had his left foot amputated. The operation was performed in order to eliminate necrosis and stop the process of cell death. On Friday, the Telegram 112 channel reported that Kostomarov had agreed to amputate his fingers if doctors could not restore the blood supply and necrosis would threaten the skater’s life.
Kostomarov, together with Tatyana Navka, won the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin in ice dancing. In addition, the athletes are twice world champions (2004, 2005) and three times winners of the European Championships (2004, 2005, 2006).
