First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, Honorary Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov answered a few questions on the eve of the XXVI International Charity Golf Tournament, which will be held on June 3 at the Moscow Country Club (a subsidiary of GlavUpDK under the Russian Foreign Ministry).
The event will include a tournament between 18 teams, as well as various master classes, talks and performances by artists.
— What, in your opinion, is being done and what should be paid special attention to popularize and develop golf in Russia?
— Today, golf is actively developing in Russia, new clubs are opening — it’s great that more and more people are joining this wonderful sport. Now, special attention should be paid to increasing children’s sections, attracting children to the game of golf.
— Will you participate in the XXVI International Charity Tournament at the Moscow Country Club, which will be held on June 3?
— I always take part in charity tournaments with pleasure, including not for the first time at the Moscow Country Club. It is very important that, following the results of this tournament, the collected funds are transferred to charitable foundations, hospitals, boarding schools and other institutions. I myself run the charity Under the Flag of Kindness, which raises money for expensive surgeries for children with disabilities.
— How often do you have the opportunity and time to play golf?
I try to play when I have free time.
— What do you think is there in golf that other sports don’t have?
— In my opinion, golf gives people of all ages the opportunity to play sports: from the youngest to the over 80s. From this point of view, golf is a unique sport, perhaps comparable only to chess.
