“There is a biased attitude towards Russia.” Lipnitskaya’s first coach on raising the age limit

The proposal to raise the age limit in figure skating was put forward due to a biased attitude towards Russian athletes. This opinion was expressed in an interview with by the first coach of the Olympic champion Yulia Lipnitskaya Elena Levkovets.

Earlier, reported that the International Skating Union (ISU) board of directors had put forward a proposal to gradually increase the age limit in figure skating from 15 to 17 years old. It will be discussed at the organisation’s congress, which will be held from June 6 to 10 in Phuket.

– Are there any advantages at the age limit? If you look from the inside, from the coach’s point of view.

– Well, judging by Veronica, there are no advantages (laughs). And not just for Veronica. Valieva is the same – she has already formed, she has become such a princess. It seems to me that she looks even more mature than Sasha Trusova and Anya Shcherbakova – and how will she play with the little ones? And I’m not even talking about the quads – purely outwardly, in the picture.

So it’s an artificial containment?

Well, this question certainly arose because of our daughters. There were no such disputes before, when Tara Lipinski won the world championship at 14 and the Olympics at 15. It’s just that it’s such a biased attitude towards us. Now the ISU even changed the rules – they added points on restrictions and everything else. They did this because of Valieva.
