“Performance at the Olympic Games in 2024 is my goal” – Awesome

Chairman of the Athletes’ Commission of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), double Olympic champion in fencing Sophia the Great in a conversation with a correspondent at the opening ceremony of the International Young Olympians Forum in Moscow, she said her goal was to perform at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

– Do you have enough time for sport with these activities at the ROC and the Athletes’ Commission?

– There is enough time. I have an individual plan. Everything will depend on the timing of the restrictions, the opportunities we will have. I will start training hard in September. Now I keep in shape to be in shape. I am part of the Olympic movement and in my spare time I always participate in ROC activities and youth sports related activities. I can only relate the situation with the international season with humor.

I have a particular course in terms of my career, my preparation for major competitions. Not like everyone else, not according to the norm. So I continue to be optimistic. The fact that today there is no longer any international competition does not mean that we have to stop working. We need to strengthen our personal qualities to be ready to return to the international scene. We have a big country, we have very qualified coaches, we have the infrastructure: in general, we have everything to develop. A question in psychology – yes. Coaches and athletes have to work here.

– It turns out that you have no plans for the Spartakiad in August?

– For the moment, I will not participate. But perhaps this situation will change. I can’t speak for sure. But if we talk about my preparation in general, then Paris 2024 remains my objective.

Velikaya is a double Olympic champion in team competitions, a silver medalist at the London, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Games, and an eight-time world champion.

The 2024 Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
