Chairman of the Athletes’ Commission of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), double Olympic champion in fencing Sophia the Great in a conversation with a correspondent, she said that the withdrawal Stanislav Pozdnyakov of the position of head of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) is unethical and incorrect.
On Tuesday, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Pozdnyakov said the EFC Congress had voted to terminate his powers within the organization early. 23 EFC member federations out of 37 voted in favor of Pozdnyakov’s dismissal, 10 against, 4 abstained.
“It seems to me that the confederation behaved unethically and incorrectly. Any representation of our country in an international organization is very important to us. Here, unfortunately, we lost the opportunity. In recent years, led by Usmanov, with the representation of Pozdnyakov, all countries felt good, fencing developed there. I have 20 years of career behind me, and I remember very well where I started and what is happening now. At the same time, I would like the current state, on the contrary, to be only a minimum for the world fencing of tomorrow. But for that, our sport must be developed. Let’s see what they have next, – Velikaya told at the opening ceremony of the International Young Olympians Forum in Moscow.
Pozdnyakov has been leading EFC since 2016. In September last year, the Russian was re-elected to the position.
