Duda: Putin pursues his policies with the support of Russians, including many athletes

The President of Poland opposes the participation of Russians in the Olympic Games-2024

President of Poland Andrzej Duda opposed the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.

“I know this is a very difficult decision. But I think that no one who approves of the policy being implemented today by Vladimir Putin should participate in the big world of sports, the big world of peace and friendship, like the Olympic Games.”

“At the same time, please remember that Vladimir Putin is not alone in his politics. He is implementing it with the support of Russian society, and this support is very clear. It is also the support of so many athletes.”

“In the media, one can read statements in which Vladimir Putin’s policy is unambiguously approved. Somehow, Russia must be forced to abandon this aggressive, neo-colonial behavior that it is displaying today. Russia must return to normal functioning, compliance with international law, it cannot continue to pursue a repressive policy of extermination of other peoples.”

Recall that the IOC is ready to consider the possibility of admitting athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions. At the same time, everyone who wishes will be required to act in a neutral status. Also, athletes should not support the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and pass a mandatory doping test.

The Olympic Summit, chaired by IOC President Thomas Bach, unanimously agreed to accept an initiative proposed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in its competitions. The OCA is developing a special system that will allow Russians to qualify for the Olympics through Asian competitions.

The IOC believes that a complete ban on the performance of Russian and Belarusian athletes is discrimination and is contrary to the Olympic Charter. The organizers of the 2024 Olympics in Paris said they would adhere to the decision of the International Olympic Committee to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete under a neutral flag.
