Deprive Russian athletes of international departures, they cannot be deprived of their pursuit of excellence – Pozdnyakov

President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov spoke at the opening ceremony of the International Young Olympians Forum, which takes place in Moscow on June 1.

Pozdnyakov spoke about the idea of holding the forum on Children’s Day.

Today is a wonderful sunny day in Moscow. We would like to see a day like Children’s Day and the opening of the Young Olympians Forum. The idea of holding the forum on the same day as Children’s Day is to give young athletes anti-doping knowledge. We wouldn’t want your lack of knowledge in this area to overshadow your career. We will sign an agreement with RUSADA during the forum.

The Olympic values began to resonate in a particular way. One of these values is friendship. True friends are in this room. Moreover, the main objective is the pursuit of excellence. When our athletes are deprived of international departures, they cannot deprive them of their commitment to excellence. I would like the days in Moscow to be eventful and instructive, and in the future you will strengthen the relations of our big and wide Olympic family,” said Pozdnyakov.

Pozdnyakov also said he would not appeal the decision of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) Congress, which voted to terminate his powers as current president of the organization early.

– I will not apply. It’s useless. There is no point reacting to this hysterical decision. Do not confuse with “historical”. If they offer to come back, they must be very convincing. And this will not be enough, – added the head of the ROC.
