Silver medalist at the 2022 Beijing Olympics Alexandra Trousova would have become an Olympic champion if she had refused to perform the triple axel in the short program. This opinion was expressed by the first coach in an interview with Yulia Lipnitskaya Elena Levkovets.
Trusova in the short program of the Olympic singles tournament fell from the triple axel. At the same time, the figure skater won the free program, which allowed her to take second place in the final. The victory was taken by another Russian figure skater, Anna Shcherbakova.
– How do you assess the results of the Olympics?
— I was so happy when Mark Kondratyuk won gold in the team! Sveta Sokolovskaya wrote that we were friends. I was the chief judge at the Urals and Volga region zonal competitions then, and they won just before the judges’ gathering began. So we started on a positive note (laughs). Everyone was so happy… It’s true, then one day passed and everything, unfortunately, changed. I still hope that I can get medals. Our guys deserve it.
– And the girls ?
– Well, Sasha… If she hadn’t missed the court, maybe the result would have been different. She shouldn’t have jumped the triple axel! I would have skated the short program properly, without deductions, and I would have become an Olympic champion. But then, probably, her stubbornness jumped that she needed to finish the axel. That’s what happened.
As for Kamila (Valiyeva), she broke down, of course. In fact, they even broke it. In addition, she skated both programs in the command team, this could also break her already purely physically. I felt very sorry for her. She’s still a little kid – even though she’s jumping quads.
