Retired lieutenant colonel of the medical service, the famous sports doctor Alexander Yablunovsky, in a commentary for KP Sport, appreciated the latest reports on the deterioration of the condition of the Olympic champion Roman Kostomarova .
Kostomarov, together with Tatyana Navka, won the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin in ice dancing. Currently, the skater is under the supervision of doctors. His hospitalization became known in January. On the eve of several media and Telegram channels at once, information appeared that the athlete’s disease was progressing, after the amputation of the left foot and hands in order to eliminate necrosis and stop the process of cell death, it was not possible to stop the crisis, and tissue damage spread further – to internal organs and even to the brain. Later, an anonymous Sport24 source called reports of Kostomarov’s deteriorating health ‘nonsense’.
– If we assume that it was a viral infection, pneumonia and there was a problem with blood clotting, then it is not only the microcirculation in the limbs that suffers. The same capillaries are found in the heart and in the lungs. And in the brain. Vessels can rupture and there are hematomas, bloodshed in the brain. Of course, these are unpleasant complications. They say the disease was systemic in nature, that is, not only the limbs were affected, but also the internal organs, says Yablunovsky.
– What is it from?
Strokes are most often caused by a lack of oxygen. The blood flow is disturbed, there is not enough oxygen, the tissue, just like on the legs, and in another organ, becomes dead, respectively, it can break. With a heart attack, it is a rupture of the heart with arrest, respectively. With a stroke, it is a rupture of the vessel and hemorrhage in the brain. Of course, it’s very boring if that’s the case.
– They say that Kostomarov is connected to a ventilator again.
– Well yes. What is this? It’s artificial ventilation. The oxygen-enriched mixture saturates the hemoglobin of erythrocytes, but they still have to reach the tissues, and if the vessel itself is poorly passable, there is a decrease in microcirculation,” Yablunovsky noted.
