WADA called DAK RUSADA’s findings in Valieva case incorrect and applied them to CAS

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has called the findings of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Anti-Doping Disciplinary Commission (DAK) in the case of a Russian figure skater accused of violating anti-doping rules incorrect. Kamila Valieva and appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Earlier, DAK RUSADA found that although the athlete committed an anti-doping rule violation, she bears “no fault or negligence” for it. Valieva escaped penalties other than the cancellation of her results as of the December 25, 2021 sample date.

– WADA has carefully considered the fully reasoned decision in the Valieva case. WADA considers the findings of the RUSADA Disciplinary Committee that there was “no fault or negligence” in the athlete’s actions, incorrect in accordance with the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Code and has exercised its right to file a complaint to the CAS.

As part of the appeal, WADA is seeking a four-year period of ineligibility and the cancellation of all athlete results from the sample collection date of December 25, 2021. As throughout the process, WADA would continue to insist that the matter be dealt with without further delay.

Valieva at the Beijing Olympics helped the Russian team win gold in team competitions. Before the personal tournament, it became known that the illegal drug trimetazidine was found during the doping test of the Russian championship skater. The CAS allowed the Russian woman to participate in the individual competitions of the Games, where she took fourth place.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to postpone the award ceremony for the team tournament until the end of the athlete’s trial.
