The International Skating Union insists on the disqualification of Valieva and the deprivation of Olympic gold

The International Skating Union (ISU) insists on the disqualification of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva and depriving it of gold from the Beijing Olympics, reports the press service of the organization.

On Tuesday, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced that it considers the findings of the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Commission of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (DAK RUSADA) to be incorrect in the case of Valieva and that it will use the right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The AMA demands that the 16-year-old figure skater be disqualified for 4 years and void all results from the date of sampling – December 25, 2021.

– As part of the appeal, the ISU requests a suspension for a period at the sole discretion of CAS beginning December 25, 2021, and the cancellation of all results during that period, including the forfeiture of any medals , points and prizes. In addition, CAS is to rule on the consequences of Kamila Valieva’s anti-doping rule violation and determine the final results of the team figure skating competition at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, according to the statement.

Valieva at the Beijing Olympics helped the Russian team win gold in team competitions. Before the personal tournament, it became known that the illegal drug trimetazidine was discovered during the doping test of the Russian championship figure skater. The CAS allowed the Russian woman to participate in the individual competitions of the Games, where she took fourth place.

Previously, DAK RUSADA concluded that although the athlete committed an anti-doping rule violation, there was “no fault or negligence” in this matter. RUSADA has informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) of this decision. Valieva escaped sanctions other than the cancellation of her results on the date of the sample (December 25, 2021). WADA reserves the right to challenge this verdict with CAS.
