Candidate for the post of head coach of the Russian national athletics team: “There was a great system in the USSR, if you return to it, then there will definitely be success”

The 1980 Olympic relay champion, Nikolai Sidorov, in a conversation with , confirmed that he was applying for the position of head coach of the Russian athletics team and said that he would help the athletes to win again in international starts.

Earlier, All Sport reported that six specialists applied for the position of head coach of the Russian national team: Sidorov, Svetlana Abramova, Mikhail Vdovin, Leonid Voloshin, Ruslan Mashchenko and Sergey Sinelobov.

– I submitted the documents, now there will be 10 days for verification in the federation, then a question for them. I think the head coach will be chosen at the presidium,” Sidorov told .

– What was stated in the application, why should you become a head coach?

– The main task is to save the Russian team. There is nothing to invent here, everything was invented before us. The Soviet Union had an excellent system, if you return to it, there will certainly be success.

I can’t assess my chances. I read the selection criteria, there is nothing new that is unknown to me – I worked as a coach all my life: in the army I coached the national team, in Moskomsport it is the same now.
