The European Gymnastics Union (European Gymnastics) told that preparations for the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Turkey are proceeding as planned.
The European Championship will take place from April 11 to 16 in Antalya (Turkey). Several earthquakes hit the country in February, killing more than 40,000 people.
Earlier, Russian national team head coach Valentina Rodionenko in a conversation with suggested that Turkey would not be able to host the European Championship after the earthquakes.
“The loss of life is horrific and our hearts go out to the individuals and families affected. In these difficult times, European Gymnastics expresses its deepest sympathy, compassion and support for those affected and wishes everyone the strength and courage to face this tragedy.
In close cooperation with the Turkish Gymnastics Federation and local authorities, we continue to monitor the situation. For now, preparations are proceeding as planned. If anything changes, it will be reported, – told the European Gymnastics press service.
