Olympic champion Sidorov estimates that the Russian athletics team will miss the 2024 Olympics with a 99% chance

The 1980 Olympic champion in the relay Nikolai Sidorov, in a conversation with , suggested that with a high degree of probability the Russian athletics team could not participate in the 2024 Games.

The All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA) membership of World Athletics was suspended in 2015 amid a large-scale doping scandal, Russian athletes were only allowed to compete after gaining status neutral. In November 2022, World Athletics did not restore ARAF membership to its list, but recommended that the task force do so in March 2023. Now Russians are not allowed to participate in international tournaments in because of the situation in Ukraine.

– A policy on the question of the elimination of the Russians. My opinion: if in 2016 they hit the table hard and didn’t go to Rio, I think the athletes would have been sent back to the international stage a long time ago. And then everything was blurry, the athletes were getting ready, but…

We also prepared in 1984, but in the end we missed the Games in Los Angeles. The capitalists count the money, after Rio they would have empty pockets and everything would come back. I don’t think ARAF will be reinstated in March. I think the 2024 Games are unlikely with our participation. Maybe three or four people will be allowed in a certain status, but the team will not go 99%,” Sidorov told .

Earlier it became known that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is ready to consider the possibility of the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympics in Paris in a neutral status. The games will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
