Ekaterina Rubleva, coach of Russian junior ice dance champions Anna Shcherbakova and Yegor Goncharov, explained the importance of skaters’ desire and the business coaching approach.
“It’s always a combination of factors. The athlete must not only be talented, but also attentive, ready to take on the position of coach and not be afraid to look a little more into himself, into his own understanding of dance. But the coach must also understand in the same way what result he wants to see and what to walk away from,” Rubleva told RT.
The coach also answered the question about what she wants to get away from.
– Movement for movement’s sake, when the athlete is given the task of simply performing a certain set of elements and gestures. I wanted to make sure my skaters understood exactly what they wanted to show, explain and convey to the audience with every move they made. In order to maximize the interaction between the partners and at the same time as natural as possible, added the coach.
