Athletes from Russia and Belarus do nothing to stop the war
Former first racket of Ukraine, and now a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a volunteer Sergei Stakhovsky spoke about the fact that after a year of war in Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian tennis players still play in international tournamentsand almost none of them condemned the military aggression of the Russian Federation.
“We are talking about people (athletes) who did not express their position, who did not say that they were against the war, who did not say that they were against the invasion of Ukraine, in fact, they did not say anything.”
“But when there is a war, it’s not about whether they support or not. It is about whether it is possible to kill, whether it is possible to break into another country. Because there are supportive countries, including Australia and all the other countries where they compete.”
“Countries are spending millions of dollars to help Ukraine win the war, but they are paying millions of dollars to tax-paying Russians. It is very strange”.
Earlier, Stakhovsky spoke about why it is so important to prevent the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions.
In February, Elina Svitolina and Sergey Stakhovsky held a master class for young Ukrainian tennis players.
Today marks exactly one year since the military invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine.
