Athletistic/ Others. The US state of Indiana has become the fifteenth state to ban transgender girls from participating in women’s sports tournaments at the school and college levels.
The corresponding law was passed by the Indiana legislature, overriding the governor’s veto. Six other states have similar bills in the works.
The ban comes as trans women are seen by many as having a physical advantage over Indigenous women. These talks received wide publicity after transgender swimmer Leah Thomas (formerly Will Thomas) won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship.
Leah herself said in a recent interview that trans women are not a threat to women’s sports.
