He held on for 11 years
On European Championship 2023 in athletics Ukrainian women’s world record broken indoors Natalia Dobrynskaya.
Dobrynskaya in 2012 became the world champion with a score of 5,013 points in the pentathlon. This achievement lasted 11 years.
Today in Istanbul, Natalia’s achievement was surpassed by two athletes at once – the new European champion Nafissatu Thiam from Belgium (5,055 points) and a representative from Poland Adrianna Sulek (5014).
It should be noted that Ukrainian Yulia Loban also performed in the pentathlon at the European Championship 2023. With a score of 4,091 points, she finished 12th overall.
Ukraine won one bronze medal at the European Championships – the award was won by Roman Kokoshko in the shot put. Also, three Ukrainians qualified for the high jump final at once – Yaroslava Maguchy, Yulia Levchenko and Kateryna Tabashnik.
