Head of the Russian Rugby Federation Artemiev spoke about the importance of rejuvenating the composition of the Russian national team

Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Russian Rugby Federation (RFR) Igor Artemyev told reporters why the budget of the organization will be revised in favor of national youth and youth teams.

– The fact that the national team does not play and has not yet been formed is a temporary process. We are still going to make a team that will play test matches. It seems to me that as soon as the fire stops, there will be some sort of return. Because now more and more sports officials are beginning to realize that they are under pressure from politicians to make this decision. [об отстранении российских команд] accepted, but tomorrow the Americans will integrate into another country. They can’t do without it, once every four years, they climb somewhere with their allies: in Yugoslavia, in Iraq, in Libya. And when it happens again, how will they face themselves then?

It seems to me that culture and sport will now deteriorate rapidly – there will be no Olympic movement, no world championships, or reasonable people will show up. The first signs are already there – the tennis associations have decided not to award points for Wimbledon, as there is discrimination at national level.

There will come a time when hostilities will be stopped. This will be the starting point of our return.

It can take a long time. It is therefore necessary to form a younger team. Our team is very mature. We understand that the national team in the composition in which it played recently will not find itself. Our main focus is players under 23 – U18, U20 teams. We are revising the budget in favor of these teams,” Artemyev told reporters.

On May 13, the International Rugby Federation (World Rugby) rejected an appeal against the decision to withdraw Russian teams from the competition and suspend membership of the organization.
