Protsenko: Second place again, but I’m happy with it

Andrey has silver at the winter European Championship 2023 in Istanbul

Ukrainian high jumper Andrey Protsenko commented silver medal at the European Championship 2023 in room in the Stambul.

“I don’t like to hide my emotions. I am happy with the jumps, everything went well. Didn’t make it a little. I mean, I tried, but it didn’t work out. Second place again, but I’m happy with that. However, there is still time, I will jump.”

“Everything went smoothly? No, it didn’t hurt. It’s good that everything is fine there. It happens to me that everything starts to break down, but then it gets fixed. Maybe I didn’t run a little, but technically everything was fine. Satisfied with my jumps. I could jump higher, but not this time.”

“Why are Ukrainian jumpers cool? Because we have a good school, more technical than in many countries. We have professional coaches, not physical education teachers who train athletes. Because in other countries, coaching is usually a hobby, and they have to work somewhere, but in our country it is a professional occupation, to which coaches devote themselves fully.”

“What’s next? Rest week, perhaps, and preparation for the summer. After all, there is not much time left before him. The season starts on May 5 in Doha, the first stage of the Diamond League. I doubt that I will go there, because the season is long, it ends in September, the Diamond League final is on September 15th. The preparation will be in Portugal.”

The Ukrainian took second place with a score of 2.29m. Gold went to Duve Amels from the Netherlands, who managed to update his personal best by jumping 2.31m.

Ukraine won 4 medals at the 2023 European Indoor Championships. Roman Kokoshko won the bronze medal in the shot put. In the high jump sector, Yaroslav Maguchy became the European champion, and Ekaterina Tabashnik won bronze.
