Ukrainian believes that both boxers want a unification fight
WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO title holder Oleksandr Usyk shared his expectations from the unification fight with the WBC champion Tyson Fury.
“I need this fight, that’s all. I think he needs it too. This fight is very important for both of us.”
“I’m not afraid of Tyson Fury. It will be like any other fight. It’s just a big man with a WBC belt who has never lost before. In fact, this is a regular fight for the right to win all the belts.
“If a person is bigger than me, this does not mean that he is stronger than me. Just because they have longer arms doesn’t mean it’s an advantage.”
“I have been boxing since I was 15 years old. They kept telling me that I shouldn’t box. I was told that I would not become an Olympic champion or a world champion and that I should not have moved up to heavyweight. But these were the opinions of people who could not do it themselves. Personally, I keep praying and moving forward. I don’t worry about whether I get to my destination.”
Fury and Usyk plan to hold a face-to-face fight for the title of absolute world champion on April 29 in London at Wembley Stadium. At the same time, promoter Eddie Hearn believes that the fight will still be held in Saudi Arabia.
Promoter Frank Warren has said that if negotiations for a unification bout between Usyk and Fury are not finalized soon, he will explore other options for his client. The British father, John Fury, is sure that the distribution of the fee should be 60/40 in favor of Tyson, while the Ukrainian side wants 50/50.
