The artistic swimming team hopes to be based in Ukraine this year, and not abroad
Ukrainian world and European champion in artistic swimming Marta Fedina spoke about the preparations and plans for the new season.
“Planning something in advance is now impossible, but, yes, while we are in Kyiv. We have a “conditional” calendar. Now we have to go to Canada for the World Cup. After Canada, we are returning to Kyiv again, preparing for new competitions. But there is no clear understanding – according to the plan, we train and live here, only we leave for competitions, in particular, for the European and World Championships. But we know who our neighbors are and what kind of people they are.”
“I will say this: no one wants to leave for Italy. Yes, it was great there, we were received very warmly – they provided us with a pool, housing, and even clothes. I have already said a lot about this, that we went with what we were. And they gave us swimsuits, glasses, and warm clothes – everything. The Italians treated us like family. We are infinitely grateful to them. But it’s better at home, so I’m very glad that we have the opportunity to be in Ukraine and train, although not in my hometown. I like the feeling that I am here, I am close to my loved ones. This feeling is priceless.”
“One of the main starts of this year will be the European Championship, because licenses for the Olympic Games will be played there. There is an opportunity to win them already. This is one of the goals for this season – to give everything to the maximum in order to start the season next year with the understanding that you are already going to the Games, that you have clear tasks. I don’t want to be in limbo, because the last chance to get a license will be two or three months before the Olympics. I don’t want to be constantly in suspense, plus something can go wrong. It is very difficult to understand that you have found yourself overboard for some step towards the Games. Therefore, among the goals is to take a license now and calm down.”
Recall that at the European Championships 2022 in Rome, Marta Fedina won two gold medals in individual competitions, winning in free and technical solo.
