Ukrainian saber fencer won the first medal at the World Cup since December 2019
Ukrainian fencer Olga Harlan commented silver medal at the World Cup in Athens.
“Step forward. Small but step. It was very pleasant to get a medal in wrestling, I really wanted gold, but perhaps it’s not time yet, and I’m still moving towards it. Therefore, with such small steps, I go to the top.
“I am very happy that our flag was on the pedestal. It is a pity that one stroke was not enough for the anthem. But it will still sound, I believe in it and really want it. I still have a lot of work to do. Never stop, work, develop. Each competition is always some pros and cons. And I am happy with these disadvantages, because this is the development that should be. I’m ready to work, I have my next competition coming soon, in two weeks in Belgium.”
“As for the saber team, it is ready, and we really want to win, but so far it’s somehow very difficult. According to my personal results, I can say that it is very difficult to fall, and now we are falling hard, but we are not upset, we do not give up and are ready to work. We have the European Games, the World Championship, we want to show the best result there, there is still time. The Olympic selection has not started yet, and everything is still ahead.”
In the final in Athens, Olga minimally lost to the representative of Hungary, Sugar Katinka Battay – 14:15. The Ukrainian saber fencer won the first medal at the World Cup since December 2019.
Note that in January, Harlan won the first medal at the Grand Prix level, starting in 2020. The Ukrainian won the bronze medal at the Tunisian Grand Prix.
