Athletistic/ Figure Skating. Two-time world champion Evgenia Medvedeva shared a funny story that happened to her at the dawn of her competitive career.
A funny incident happened in Boston overseas, where the 2016 World Figure Skating Championships were held.
“I’m going to tell you about the embarrassment of a global scale, because the incident happened at the World Cup. In short, my watch was five minutes late. And five minutes in this situation is a lot. I just turned 16, I’m such an upstart. In the warm-up with me, there were: double world champions, Olympic medalists who have already seen a lot in sport, people who are so experienced ( they were Elena Radionova, Anna Pogorilaya, Gracie Gold, Ashley Wagner and Satoko Miyahara).
And I decided that I had to go on the way to pee. And it’s so complicated, our costumes are zipper on zipper, zipper on zipper. It is, in principle, long – unbutton, tie, fix your hair, put on gloves, pull the loop. It is too long. But I decided that five minutes was enough. I went there and as soon as I entered the cabin, the warm-up time had already started.
And I understand that the coach is already knocking on my door saying: Zhenya, hurry up, the warm-up has started without you! And going to the World Cup without a warm-up, and even with such a scandal, is basically average. And I don’t want to ruin my reputation.
Anyway, I ran out: the dress was unbuttoned, the gloves weren’t worn, a skate was half tied. I run to the ice, the coach ties me something along the way, the lightning is still blocked. And in this form, I come running and understand that 25,000 people are sitting in the room, there are five of the greatest figure skaters in the world, the competition organizers, the cameras, prime time.
And there, I run in absolute silence, and everyone is looking at me. It was possible to fail. Later I apologized to everyone, – Medvedev shared his memories in an interview with the channel “i know myself on youtube“.
