The UK government is urging Olympic sponsors to put pressure on the IOC to avoid the Russians

According to The Guardian, the UK government appealed to the largest sponsor of the Olympics with a call to put pressure on the International Olympic Committee on the issue of the entry of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international games and the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

UK Culture, Media and Sport Minister Lucy Fraser released a statement addressing IOC partners including Coca-Cola, Intel, Samsung and Visa.

“We know that sports and politics in Russia and Belarus are closely related, and we are determined to prevent the Russian and Belarusian authorities from using sports for propaganda purposes.

Until our concerns and lack of full clarity and specific details about a workable model of neutrality are addressed, we do not agree that Russian and Belarusian athletes should be allowed to return to competition,” the statement reads. letter
