American figure skater Ilya Malinin will be able to successfully execute a program with a quadruple axel, says the 2006 Olympic champion in ice dancing Tatyana Navka.
In May, Malinin performed a training-specific quadruple axis. In June he said he was doing the 4+4 combination for fun and also confirmed that he was planning to include a quad Axel in the program and would try a seven jump, four rev setup.
— I salute any revolutionary movement. If you don’t move forward, don’t move, then there will be no progress. He’s a big guy. We look forward to the realization of his dream. I’m sure he will succeed,” Navka told Metaratings.ru.
Malinin is 17 years old, last season he won the Junior World Championship and two stages of the Junior Grand Prix. In addition, the skater became the second in the American championships.
