Former UFC Champion Ngannou: My next step should be boxing. We came to a verbal agreement with Wilder

Fight Ngannou and Wilder can lead in Africa

Former UFC Champion Francis Ngannou confirmed his plans to go into boxing and fight the former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

“My next step should be boxing. First I want to do one boxing match and then maybe go back to MMA because I still like MMA. I want to have a couple of boxing fights. We are working on some things and hopefully in a month or two I will be able to announce possible dates and locations for the fight. It’s taking a little longer than I expected, but it’s happening.”

“I consider all opponents. I spoke to Eddie Hearn about Anthony Joshua, I don’t know what’s going to happen next. The most we talked to was Deontay Wilder’s team. We had an exchange of views, we came to an oral agreement.”

“I always wanted to fight in Africa. To fight at home, but also to give people a show, the opportunity to see all these big events and give a gift to children so that they believe in this sport and let them know that everything is possible. I’m still working on bringing something to Africa and I will. This is my personal mission.”

Ngannou had his last fight in the UFC in January last year, after which he left the promotion and became a free agent. Ngannou also expressed interest in fighting Tyson Fury.

Earlier it was reported that Wilder is in talks with Ngannou for two fights. Previously, one of them may take place in the United States, and the second in Africa.

In the spring of 2023, Wilder is due to fight former world champion Andy Ruiz. Deontay’s trainer Malik Scott believes that the fight will be held, despite the differences between the parties.
