Our federation demands to strengthen sanctions against Russian chess players
Chess Federation of Ukraine (FSU) issued a statement regarding admission of the Chess Federation of Russia (FSHR) to official competitions.
“Dear members of the FIDE Council! Against the backdrop of talks in FIDE about the possible admission of teams from the Russian Federation to official competitions, we ask you to pay attention to the attempt by the FSR to “integrate into chess life” the occupied territories of Ukraine.”
“Such activity is an element of forced forced integration of the temporarily occupied territories. Everyone who participates in it, including the Russian Chess Federation, its functionaries and sponsors, as well as international chess organizations, including FIDE, who tacitly contribute, explicitly or implicitly encourage, turn a blind eye or “not noticing” this, are accomplices of the killers and, undoubtedly, are subject to international sanctions and criminal prosecution.”
“We call on FIDE to immediately condemn these criminal acts and increase sanctions against Russian chess players, functionaries and all those involved in this.”
Recall that in February, the CFR moved to the Asian Chess Federation (ACF). The Council of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) agreed on the decision of the FSC to move to the ACF.
In 2022, FIDE suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from international competitions, and also took away the World Chess Olympiad-2022 from the Russian Federation. Later, FIDE allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete in international tournaments under the flag of the organization until December 31, 2022.
