The Russian Handball Federation is looking for an opportunity to organize a tournament with the participation of Asian teams

The Russian Handball Federation (RHF) plans to hold a big tournament with the participation of Asian teams, said Lev Voronin, general director of the RHF.

Last weekend, Minsk hosted two friendlies between the men’s teams of Russia and Belarus. In early March, Moscow hosted the Friendship Cup between women’s teams, in which two members of the Russian national team, the Belarusian team and the Chinese club “Phoenix” took part.

– What awaits Russian handball on the international scene in the near future?

– The junior team, made up of players born in 2006, is in Minsk. From March 14 to 16, this team has matches with peers from Belarus. The players watched the national team’s second game from the stands of the Chizhovka Arena. In April, the women’s youth team will travel to Belarus.

– In an extraordinary conference of the federation on February 1, it was said that there were options for the men’s team to organize matches in Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia . How are relations evolving in these areas?

— We are in contact with Bahrain, Iran, we exchange information with Qatar. We are looking for opportunities to organize a big tournament, whether in Russia or elsewhere. It is useful for both our national team and the Belarus team to diversify the circle of training partners, and in the named Asian countries there are good rivals, ”said the information service of the ROC quoting Voronin.

In February last year, the International Handball Federation indefinitely suspended Russian and Belarusian teams and clubs from participating in competitions under the organization’s auspices.
