2015 World and European Champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva admitted she couldn’t perform in a three-hour solo show, like the Japanese figure skater did Yuzuru Hanyu .
Hanyu in July 2022 announced the end of his amateur career and the transition to professionals. The two-time Olympic champion presented a three-hour “Gift” show, where he performed alone.
“It seems to me that this is only possible in Japan and only with Yuzuru Hanyu, because you can say that he is like a god there. He is revered by millions of people, he is a figure skater very popular. How he survived, I have no idea. It’s incredibly difficult! Even three numbers from the show are physically very difficult to skate and play for three hours straight… I can’t imagine where he gets his strength from. It’s really, really cool, but I’m not such a flying bird. And I don’t think I could.
Could such a format be established in Russia? I am not sure. We have a lot of good skaters. I can’t single out a single person who could do the same,” Tuktamysheva told the Championship.
Hanyu won Olympic gold medals in 2014 and 2018, and also won World Championship gold twice (2014, 2017). At the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, the Japanese took fourth place.
