Carvalho and Ricardo become assistants to Martinez in the Portuguese national team

Portugal has acquired a full-fledged coaching staff

New Portugal coach Roberto Martinez decided on his assistants.

The headquarters of the national team will include two ex-players of the national team – Ricardo Carvalho And Ricardo Pereira. Both spent over 75 matches as part of Portugal, and also played at the Euro 2004, Euro 2008, World Cup 2002 and World Cup 2006.

Recall that Roberto Martinez signed a contract before the end of the 2026 World Cup. Roberto replaced Fernando Santos as head coach of Portugal.

Martinez has been out of work since December, when he announced his resignation as head coach of the Belgian national team following the team’s elimination from the 2022 World Cup.

Portugal in December terminated the contract with Fernando Santos ahead of schedule after the defeat of the national team from Morocco in the 1/4 finals of the 2022 World Cup.

Portugal will play in Group J with Slovakia, Iceland, Luxembourg, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Liechtenstein in the Euro 2024 qualifier. Qualification will start in March 2023.
