Representatives of the Russian side will be able to participate in the congress of the International Skating Union (ISU), this decision was taken by the board of the organization, a source familiar with the situation told .
The Council did not exclude the representatives of Russia and Belarus from participating in the ISU Congress and in the elections of the governing bodies.
In particular, the decision was made due to the risk that the Russian side would file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). ISU lawyers informed the council that the exclusion of representatives of the Belarusian Skating Union, the Russian Skating Union and the Russian Figure Skating Federation from candidates for congress or elections may make the appealed to the courts. If the CAS procedure is initiated, the court may invalidate the decision of the ISU, following which all the innovations and elections made at the congress will be annulled.
The congress will notably consider raising the age limit for figure skating. The Congress will begin its work on June 6 in Phuket.
Previously, the ISU suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in tournaments under the auspices of the organization due to events in Ukraine.
