“The atmosphere is not like a competition, more friendly.” Shcherbakova – to help homeless dogs and ice buckets

On Sunday, Artplay hosted a dog exhibit from a shelter called “All the Dogs.” The special guest of the event was the Olympic champion, world figure skating champion Anna Shcherbakova . At first she resisted the onslaught of fans wanting to be photographed with her and get an autograph, then spoke to reporters, including a correspondent. Before starting the conversation, Anna warned that today she would not like to talk about sports.

“You just gave probably a thousand autographs. Is it difficult for you to communicate with so many people?

“Now it was no longer exciting and not tiring for me at all. On the contrary, I am accused of so many positive things about it. With great pleasure, I talked with everyone, took pictures. The mood here is not that of a competition, it is more convivial.People ask quite ordinary questions, I am happy to talk to everyone.

– You were given two full buckets of ice cream today.

– Oh yeah (Laughs). There were a lot of gifts, they give flowers. Different people give me buckets of ice cream, it’s amazing. They also gave Bin Dun-Dun a sticker for the mafia (Ani’s cat. – “”), so the gift will be delivered.

What does participating in such events mean to you? We know you are very fond of dogs.

– Once upon a time, I said in an interview that I myself really wanted to somehow help homeless animals in shelters. They saw this interview and suggested there was such an opportunity. I thought it was incredibly cool to be able to make a small contribution to this cause. I was already at the cat show, now – the dogs. This time, many people, fans came. And I’m very happy that people, maybe, first come just to see me, get an autograph, and then they see this atmosphere, they’re in charge of it. Maybe one of them will also take the dog into the house. I’m very happy about it.

“What will you do with the buckets of ice presented?”

– I’ll take it home, and there, maybe my sister will take (Laughs). Or parents. I don’t know yet, but we have a big family, so she won’t be lost.

– Do you want to bring another dog home?

– Oh, being at these exhibitions, I can hardly resist not dragging them all (Laughs). But I don’t know, maybe.

There are two dogs here who are very close to you. Why would you want to leave today without them?

– It’s true. At the filming (publicity of the event) I was with two beautiful, very cute dogs. They’re also from the shelter, so when I first walked into the room, they huddled, scared. And before the start of filming, we followed them for an hour and a half. I spoke with them, caressed, fed. And already at the shooting they lay down on me, they became so calm.

Of course, everyone needs their own approach. It was hard to part with them – now I saw them at the exhibition and immediately wanted to see them. I really want to take them all to me, but I’m doing everything in my power to ensure that each of them finds a home. I’m not ruling out possibly going with one of them today, but I still have to take into account that I already have a big dog at home – a boy. These dogs I’ve shot with are also boys, and boys and boys don’t get along very well. This must also be taken into account.

Is there any hope that your dad will agree that you still need a dog? I know he’s a little skeptical about it.

– He still has a slight allergy, so we have to thank you for the fact that we already have so many animals at home – for him this is already an achievement. But if I come silently with the dog, who will tell me what? (Laughs.)

Do your other dogs also have difficult shelter stories?

– Yes, there was an interesting moment when the dog Honey, with whom I filmed (for the publicity of the exhibition), looked a lot like my Boni. When I was little, my sister and I would just go for a walk, and Boni ran after us, and we took her with us, brought her home. She became our first pet. Here is such a story. And now Sandy lives in my house – we got him out of a shelter during quarantine.

He’s already had enough time to adjust to the house, so he’s fine.

How do dogs and cats get along in the same house?

– Tremendous. Well, our cat mainly lives in the apartment, so they rarely cross paths. I would say they are neutral. Not best friends, of course, but they don’t fight.

You train Sandy? Does he know commands?

– Knows how to “sit”, “give a paw”. “Lie down” – only if you are in a good mood. And so he’s hyperactive, rushing all the time, he just needs to play. It is therefore not up to the teams, they are in the background.

– You are taking the exam, how did you find the time for the exhibition?

– I found time for the exhibition without difficulty, because now it is the offseason – I came with joy. As for the Unified State Exam, I passed two exams – Russian and Mathematics. Biology remained – the most difficult. I hope everything will be fine.

– A neutral question – not about the sport, not about the exhibition. What are you waiting for this summer?

– If we consider summer as a holiday, then we have it in May. It’s already over – there were a lot of new impressions. Usually, summer is already the time associated with figure skating, but when there are no competitions yet. I will also be on the show. In general, summer is a time to combine figure skating, good weather outside the window, and some other interesting new events in my life.
